Weekly Field Trips

The weekly Field Trips commenced in August 2020.

Field trips are undertaken each week with multiple trips during the fungi season due to the high level of activity.

The study area covers the same track on each trip. On this transect, each trip collects data on the the growth and development and changes in plants, animal diggings, decomposition, the thicket, the understory and interactions between fungi and spiderwebs amongst other things.

The study does not cover off the track areas. Every effort is made to stay on the track and avoid trampling and compromising any more of the fragile thicket environment.  In the Southwest of WA there is little left of this particular type of ecosystem which provides shelter, home and refuge for the rare and endangered animals living around the Stewart Tree.

An Undalup Group elder confirmed that the Karri were not burned by traditional owners.

The data collection transect travels along the transition zone between the unlogged Record Brook Valley and regrowth of several different ages  before taking a line from the top of the valley straight down through the Old Growth to the Stewart Tree.

See Data Sets for more information.  Currently these are being analysed.

Highlights of the Field Trips are posted weekly on the Stewart Karri Tree Facebook group.    Members of this group help with information and identification, increasing our knowledge of this beautiful place.  Follow the Field Trip link button below and you will find highlights of all the field trips.
